I am sure the hiccup over Trump’s statements about Andrew Jackson is overblown.  I bet Trump was thinking something like, “Jackson was a slaveholder and ardent Unionist.  He would have been a good bridge between between the two sides because he lived both sides.”  A debatable proposition, but not not a wild one.
